There is unfortunately always some work that needs to be done, before we can start, even and sometimes more so when working from home.
You need an entity to work in. This can be one of the following:
- Sole proprietorship
- Partnership
- C Corporations
- LLC
- Trust
I will suggest you contact a lawyer to help you setup your entity as it differs from state to state, country to country. You need to find a entity that you feel comfortable in. I prefer a trust. Main reason is that the company can go on the day I’m not there any longer without any change, I’m just a trustee and can be replaced. Obviously I cannot be voted out while I’m still alive.
You need to find a work place where you can work without the family have to crawl over you to go their way. I’ve converted a part of my garage into a office and it works well for me.
You need office furniture and office equipment, stationary, a phone line, fax and Internet capabilities.
You need some startup capital for above, but don’t overspend and buy the latest and greatest, you can start with low budget equipment and move up once you have a income.
